The recent years have been extraordinary and challenging for the commercial landscape. The worldwide pandemic, heightened job instability, and economic downturn have reshaped consumer behavior, influenced prices, and access to goods. Many businesses have witnessed their destinies reshaped – a stroll through local shopping areas is proof. Yet, there are those entrepreneurs who rose to the occasion, spotting opportunities within the chaos, and harnessing resilience to innovate and start anew.

In discussion with two past awardees of the Powered by Namecheap initiative, Zeeshan Ahmed Siddiqui of Joraywala, an e-commerce apparel platform from Pakistan, and Deborah C. from Madly Audio, a unique audio equipment store in Canada, we learn about their genesis and triumph over obstacles.

Powered by Namecheap supports emerging businesses by offering free web hosting, domain names, and other vital resources as they embark on their entrepreneurial ventures.

The Spark of Inception

Every entrepreneurial journey begins with a spark of inspiration. Zeeshan Ahmed Siddiqui of Joraywala shares his story:

“The pandemic left many people without jobs, including my family. During those challenging times, I realized the necessity for a resilient income source. Joraywala began with a mission to create an apparel brand that provides affordable clothing for the underprivileged and middle-class communities, typically exclusive to the affluent. Our goal is to also support needy children with our profits because they are the pillars of a brighter tomorrow.”

Without prior experience in online sales, Zeeshan and his wife began their e-commerce journey in 2020 by learning through YouTube.

“Coming from the media industry, I was oblivious to the era of e-commerce. YouTube tutorials became a cornerstone of our website, aiding us in navigating the e-commerce challenges.”

Deborah from Madly Audio draws her inspiration from a family heirloom:

“My inspiration was kindled when I inherited my father’s 1970s stereo system. After his passing, I chose this keepsake among others. To me, it was more than a stereo; it held cherished memories. Alongside a friend, we revived it, and the overwhelming experience of hearing the music play again moved me profoundly. I realized there’s an essential bond between music, memory, and the device itself. This was the genesis of Madly Audio – to help others create similar connections through unique audio pieces for their homes.”

Deborah C. of Madly Audio

Deborah’s turning point led her to establish Madly Audio, focusing on crafting aesthetically pleasing audio units that resonate with a customer’s identity.

A New Path

Launching Joraywala and Madly Audio signified a radical career shift for both founders. Zeeshan reveals:

“My background in the Pakistan media industry largely kept me ignorant of the e-commerce potential.”

Deborah’s varied experience includes:

“Over twenty years in strategic operations and leadership roles within corporate media, television, and the non-profit sector. Though audio, music, and art have always been my hobbies, they weren’t part of my professional life.”

The decision of these entrepreneurs to venture beyond their familiar professional territories is quite insightful. Usually, one might be inclined to start a business within a known field. However, a deep understanding of business principles, regardless of industry, and a passion for the product can drive success even in unfamiliar terrain.

Collaboration is Key

Both Siddiqui and Deborah credit their partnerships as pivotal to their ventures. Siddiqui’s wife, Munazza, and Deborah’s business partner, Armando Reyhez, bring diverse skills and balance to their respective businesses.

“In the initial stages, my wife’s encouragement and vision were crucial. She believed that our business had the potential to persist even after the pandemic,” states Zeeshan.

“Armando, the genius behind our designs and technical innovation, is also the co-founder of Madly. Our synergistic collaboration blends our distinct skills into a cohesive vision and passion,” Deborah adds.

However, a strong partnership doesn’t shield a business from challenges.

Global Challenges

Both Siddiqui and Deborah describe the difficulties in altering market perceptions and dealing with competitive pressures in their respective domains. Whether dealing with the fleeting nature of fashion trends or proclaiming a unique value proposition in a saturated market, the difficulties are manifold.

“Positioning our apparels as luxuries accessible to all amidst rampant inflation is a significant test for Joraywala,” Siddiqui laments.

“The convergence of design, sound quality, and personal style sets Madly Audio apart in the teeming audio equipment market,” Deborah elucidates.

Continuous Innovation

Joraywala’s strategy includes keen competition surveillance and user experience refinement, while Madly focuses on product exclusivity. Siddiqui elaborates on efficient customer service and utilizing WhatsApp as a business extension.

“We aim for continued innovation and seamless integration of social platforms on our site, enhancing brand growth,” says Zeeshan.

“Our upcoming Kickstarter campaign for MACO™ speakers will benefit greatly from the expansive reach provided by Namecheap’s marketing tools,” Deborah states confidently.

Parting Insights

Finally, when asked for guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs, both our profiled business owners share motivational sentiments.

“Go for it. If I can build from ground up, so can you. Success begins with a dream and grows with persistence. Measure success by your own growth, not by others,” encourages Zeeshan.

“Pursue what you love with passion, find a partner who complements you, and savor every moment of your entrepreneurial journey,” advises Deborah.
